What a fantastic time during the Workshop 451 in Norwich! Having been part of a group with an exclusive entry to the big rehearsal of the Periplum group was a jaw-dropping experience. The group was working on the interpretation of the iconic Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” novel on a futuristic society in which all the books are banned and any existing copies burned by fire units.
The workshop group was met and greeted by the Wex Photographic rep Emily and the street photographer Damien Demolder who was leading the event. After the brief introduction and discussion on the techniques, gear, lighting we headed to the St James Development place to watch and record the rehearsal. This outdoor performance was very dynamic, with quick action changes switching to different parts of the area, lots of pyrotechnics, loud classical music that added to the atmosphere of the night. Skilled dancers and performers were using lots of props and accessories, including large platforms and installations. Acting and getting into their role while standing or hanging high above the ground was admired by the audience gathered next to them. The scenes were dramatically lit by the orange, yellow, purple and blue lights, that with the darkness around were a challenging situation to photograph at and focus, requiring nerves of steel and fast changes to the equipment settings.
