Continuing its previous years’ success, the Whitecross Street Party described by the Lonely Planet as ‘the best event to attend in Britain’ is running next month. This free of charge happening opens from 12-6 pm on both the Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July along Whitecross Street EC1 and in the Fortune Street Park, Islington in London.
Their programme is still wrapping up, but expect live music, street theatre, food stalls, drumming, gardening and art workshop, storytelling, crafts and a lot more. The organisers have planned a special kids zone running along the whole street (last year it has been arranged by Finsbury Leisure Centre, with likes of bouncy castle, craft and face painting (I love all of that, so may stand in a queue with other kids, finding colourful butterflies on both cheeks particularly amusing 🙂
There will be a Rise of the non-conformists art exhibition starting on 19th/20th July and running until September. The artwork and installation are going to be displayed on the walls, rooftops and similar unusual places.
The organisers are calling for volunteers, so please contact them if you would like to help: firstname.lastname@example.org. The WXSP team are also running a photo competition, so please use the same email address to send them your pictures of the event. The images to do not have to be technically good, mobile phone snaps are welcome too. All suitable photos will be shown on the street party flick page, winners will be posted on their website. Please send maximum 5 photographs per person. Competition is running up to 30th September 2014.
